For almost 18 months I received monthly, sometimes weekly, and one week, DAILY missives from the IRS regarding a payment that had already been paid. It was mind-numbing. Fortunately, I had chosen to seek the help and guidance of Liberty Tax Service in Fredericksburg. The business owner took on my case with the support of tax preparers and admin staff in her office. No matter the day or the hour, she had time for me on the phone, via email, and in person. She spent HOURS on the phone talking with IRS personnel--explaining the problem each time because, of course, she never got to talk with the same person twice. It was her determination and tenacity that saved me thousands of dollars. It wasn't so much the money as it was the principle--why was I being told I had to pay the same bill twice? Why wouldn't anyone listen? Why couldn't anyone in the Texas, Tennessee, or Pennsylvania IRS offices recognize the injustice? There's no way I could have taken care of this issue on my own. I will be forever grateful to Karen, Debi, and others behind the scene who kept me informed, reduced my feelings of being caught in Alice's Wonderland with no way to escape, and who never gave up.
