I took my dog to Bark 'N' Bean for a self-service wash. The place is pretty well set up for this and it can be a fun event. I was taken aback by the up-charge, however. While I was washing the dog a gentleman approached me and asked if I wanted to clean my dog's glands. I said sure, thinking he might tell me something about how to do it, but instead he reached over and touched the dog's anus. The dog immediately shrank from the touch and the gentleman said he couldn't do it because of the dog's reaction. When I went to pay the bill there was a substantial extra charge added to the bill. I asked what it was for, and he said it was for cleaning the glands. When I reminded the gentleman that he had been unable to do any cleaning and had touched the dog less than one second, he said it didn't matter because if he touched it at all there was automatically an extra charge. I made it clear that I considered this unfair, especially since he had not said anything about any charge at the time and there was nothing posted anywhere, but he simply didn't care and refused to take the charge off, as my credit card had already been charged. I consider this lack of disclosure and transparency to be troubling in any kind of transaction, so I will not return to this place. If you decide to go to this place, beware hidden charges and other similar practices.
