Client Review on Mr. Handyman

Feedback:

I had some trim put up in my garage. I could have done the work but I didn't have a mitre saw or pneumatic nail gun handy. I spoke with Ruth on the phone and she mentioned that they charge $96/hour + $50 fee. I thought, "Why not?" At most this would be a 1.5-hour job. I received an e-mail at 8:36 a.m. that a service tech was ON THE WAY. Fast forward to 9:20 a.m. and the service tech was on the phone with somebody inquiring on how to level the mitre saw???At 11ish the service tech was completed with his work and billed me $363!!! I told him that he had not been working for 3-hours. Even if he had the numbers didn't add up.I called 10+ times, sent an e-mail, and used a chat room to get down to the bottom of this. Finally, three days later Ruth answered. She had been off the day before. Apparently the company doesn't have ANY customer service without her. After persistent calling I finally contacted the company and I got my itemized receipt. Even though I had purchased all of the materials with the exception of the pneumatic nails for the nail gun I was charged $25.28 for materials. Pneumatic nails cost $8.46 at Home Depot/Lowe's for a 3,000 count.I decided to count the number of nails used to put up my trim. It was about 50 nails. I brought up the excessive materials cost to Ruth on the phone and she mentioned that there was a markup. The markup percentage would be 17,500% (NOT A TYPO) for the amount of nails used. This was in addition to the service tech using my bathroom, calling for instructions, and factoring in transit/billing time to the total cost. At any rate, I have gave Mr. Handyman ample time to respond to my dissatisfaction/overcharges but they were apparently dealing with "computer issues" that were more important than the paying customer.I cannot recommend anyone to the loose business practices of Mr. Handyman. I do have a word of advice to Mr. Handyman. If you are going to operate in small communities such as Northville, you probably don't want to charge over $25 for 14 cents worth of nails. It is not good for word of mouth.Caveat Emptor!
