The last time I was at the St. Louis airport, I rented a car from National. The in-person customer service was exceptional. Unfortunately, the over the phone customer service was not as great. The car I had rented had mechanical issues that didn't become apparent until after I left the lot and reached my destination. When I explained to the person over the phone that there was an odd, intermittent stuttering noise coming from under the hood, I didn't receive much help. She said if I continued to have problems I could report it when I dropped it off or drive it back to the car rental place. It seems to me that if there is something suspicious happening under the hood of a car, National would want the customer to stop driving the car, for the sake of safety. ?Anyway, I decided to take it back to the rental car center near the airport. The customer service at the location was absolutely wonderful. I have never had a bad experience at this location. They are why I continue to rent from National. The over the phone customer service... not so much.

National is always so easy to work with, unlike some of the their other bigger competitors. (My sisters and I went on a ski trip to Denver area and the other big box rental company we had to stand in line for over an hour after a long exhausting flight with a 12-year-old. Never again!) I booked last minute online with National into St. Louis and when I open the app to check my reservation there was an issue which required me to go to the counter. It turned out my credit card on file has been updated with a new expiration date and I had neglected to update that in the app. The gentleman behind the counter was helpful, efficient, and friendly even taking the time to update my profile so that it would reflect correctly for future reservations. Even though I was not able to use my Emerald club status to “take any car and go” as I usually do, the gentleman and lady behind the counter in St. Louis made it such an easy transition we didn’t even mind.

I was dropped off by the car rental shuttle, picked out my car, showed my drivers license to the person at the gate and drove off. QUICK and EASY.

The person at the desk was friendly and professional. The check-in was swift because he saw I was a member of the Emerald Club, so he pointed to a car parked just outside and said "The keys are in it - Safe travels." That was it. We were on our way.

Upon arrival there were not available any cars in the class rented, Instead of offering a step up I was directed to take a vehicle a step down.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, we arrived via shuttle bus at the rental location to find over 50 people standing in the parking lot where the Emerald Club cars should have been, but there were no cars. It was hot, humid, very dirty, and we waited in line over 45 minutes to get a car. As business travelers with Emerald Club Executive status we book with National for fast, reliable customer service. This quality of service is unacceptable and created several issues on our trip.
